Pastels: Learn the Medium of Degas, Cassatt and Whister
In this class, particpiants will learn the basics of pastels and how they respond to different surfaces. Instruction will also include an examination of the works of Degas, Cassatt, and Whistler for the purpose of studying their approach to pastels. This history of pastels will be highlighted as well, from the earliest notable painters who used the technique for preliminary sketching to later artists who used pastels as finished works. Many of today's most renowned living artists have distinguished themselves in pastels, and have enriched the world with this glorious medium.
This course focuses exclusively on soft pastels. Brushes, some pastels and papers are included in the course fee. Additional materials will be at the participant's expense and listed at registration.
